First visit? No problem. This is how it works…

When you arrive at our Repair Café

Hello there! You’ll be welcomed by our volunteer Greeters at the welcome desk

Our Greeters will chat with you about what item they’ve brought and the issue.

The next step involves you understanding and signing the declaration form (read the declaration form here). Our Repair Café is all about reducing waste and skill sharing, however, sometimes this isn’t possible and repairs by our volunteer menders might not be possible. We like you to know this before heading to one of our menders.

Being matched with our awesome Menders

You will then be matched with one of our Menders. The categories they focus on are: Clothing and Textiles, Small Electrical Items and Furniture and Toys

If they aren’t free right away, then please feel free to enjoy a cuppa whilst you wait.

The repairs begin together

When the Mender is free, they will then have a look at your broken item and explain if there are any repair options. Together, you agree on what to do next with the repair

Our Repair Café encourages skill sharing so Menders will talk you through what they’re doing and sharing techniques where possible. If you would like to help repair your item, then this can be possible if it’s safe/easy to do so.

Please know that sometimes, our Menders can’t fix your item if repairs are complex or lengthy. They may be able to give advice or suggest other options for repair outside of our Repair Café.

What we do afterwards…

If a repair is successful, then we make note of the positive environmental impact. Then you can go away happy knowing you are a planet conscious champ!

Questions we think you might have…

1

Can I leave my item for repair and come back to collect it later?

No, afraid not. Our Repair Café is about skill sharing so we wouldn’t want you to miss out on all the fun! Plus, we value our volunteer Menders time and don’t want them to feel taken advantage of.

2

My item needs a complex and lengthy repair. Can I take it to the Repair Café?

You, are welcome to bring items to the Repair Café for advice. However, the Repair Café is designed for simple repairs, so its unlikely it will be fixed by our Menders. This way more repairs can happen and we can manage expectations for what can and can’t be fixed.

3

Can I get multiple items repaired?

Yes, but please be aware that only one item can be repaired at a time. Additional items will have to be logged with our Greeters and you will have to rejoin the queue. We want the maximum number of people to experience the skill sharing as possible. You can always come to the next Repair Café with your second item.

4

Can I help out?

Yes! Our Repair Café is new and we are always looking for enthusiastic and passionate people to help out. There are multiples volunteer roles available, such as Organisers, Greeters and Menders. Email us at EveryOneEveryDay@corra.scot to tell us you’re interested and we can have a chat.
